Shipping out to Darwin…

It’s not the arctic and there are no monkeys, but there are crocodiles, wet seasons, Arnhem Land and now, POPP tables in the Northern Territory. In the coming month, Darwin will install its first outdoor ping pong table – super cool, much like the Arctic Monkeys are in this game of ping pong.

Outdoor Table Tennis Bats

We have a sneak peek at some hand made POPP bats that will be released in limited run early this year. They wont be stocked in Target, so you will need to pre-order from info@popp.net.au – $25 including postage to Australia. Colourful rubber to be applied soon!

Ping Pong in the Park

Hyde Park, Western Australia, 2011. There’s not a POPP table there (just yet), but the inner city locals enjoyed our temporary picnic table within the scene confounds of Hyde Park. Strangers, then ping pong players, then smiling acquaintances.

140 William Street, Perth
Small Laneway. Big Truck.

When we installed a POPP table at an award-winning retail complex (140 William) in Perth’s CBD, access was restricted, but not in that cool way where you’re a celebrity and there’s a rider. More in that way where a truck is 2.8m wide and the laneway it needs to fit through is 2.9m wide. Result: not a scratch.

Perth Lord Mayor says: POPP a “perfect fit”

For a celebrity invitational between Western Force and Perth Glory stars, Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi commented to West Online about POPP: “I like the fact that you can stumble across something that is unexpected, and I think something that is interactive like public outdoor ping pong is a perfect fit for us in the city.”

Perth Lord Mayor sizes up her Western Force opponent at a table tennis promotional match.

Beaufort Street Festival
POPP, meet Beaufort Street Festival.

POPP cameoed at Beaufort Street Festival in 2011. And by cameoed, we mean starred. And by starred, we mean stole the show. Ping pong on three POPP tables, artwork by Mental Powers drummer Jamie Doohan on the steel princess, and music by the Flying Scotsman DJs. Image shows final touches to the pink hand that gripped a table.
